grandma hat + new yarn

I made this hat for my grandmother when she told me she liked the purple version.
It's a little snug because it's made with a firmer acrylic wool than the "Red Heart Soft" that I used for the purple one. This hat is very popular. You'll find the pattern here.

My yarn came in!

I was on Yarn.com, looking for a dk weight yarn on sale. It's a blend of pima cotton and merino wool. And I knew if was for me when i saw the title of the yarn Lily Chin "Gotham." It's like one of those signs that everyone seems to wait for. If it's pretty and soft with a tie to batman, it's for me. I plan to make this
I really like almost everything the designer makes. She makes some really pretty things.
This was an impulse buy and I think I'm making something for my friend Kelly out of it. Teal is her color. :)

My first Post:

My friend, Lindsay, taught me how to crochet about 10 months ago (when it was actually cool outside.) But after making a hat that resembled a jelly-fish on my first try, I reluctantly put down the hook for a while. Meanwhile, this summer, following her on yarn shop excursions, I've been bitten my the crocheting bug and in the past few weeks, I've been making hats, (despite the Florida heat:)

"Barney" Hat (damn color combos)

this was from a pattern I found on Ravelry. It turned out okay for a second crocheting attempt. And, the scarf is just a whole bunch of scs.

"Blue Widow" Hat

I found this hat in "Cool Crocheted Hats." But when I tried to make it the pattern was completely off. Made more for a person with a skinny, cone-shaped head. So after much modification, the blue widow was born, (mwhaha?)
I did write up a pattern for this if anyone would like it.

"Fuzzy Meadow" Earflap Hat

This one is a modification of the modified Widow's Peak pattern. While I think Lion Brand Homespun is kind of a pain to crochet with, I'm addicted to their colors and the soft fuzzy texture when it's completed. Of the three this one's my favorite. It fits like a glove.

I leave for college in about four days. Somehow i'm still finding time to make things while throwing all my stuff into a packing pile. :) I made a slouchy beret for my grandmother last night (sadly it's a bit snug on her) and a I plan on making a beanie for my manager before I head out to Flagler.
